On the afternoon of August 30, 2016, Premier Li Keqiang met in Beijing with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau of Canada, who was paying an official visit to China.

Li Keqiang expressed that China and Canada enjoy a long-standing relationship, and the friendship between the two countries has taken deep roots in people's hearts. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations 46 years ago, both countries have continuously deepened relations in such areas as politics, economy, trade and people-to-people and cultural exchanges, and cooperation outcomes in various fields have practically benefited the two peoples. China has become the second largest trade partner, source of imports and export market of Canada, presenting broad prospect in bilateral relations and cooperation.

Li Keqiang pointed out that both China and Canada honor diverse culture, and advocate seeking common grounds while reserving difference, mutual learning and inclusiveness. The Chinese side is ready to work with the new Canadian government to well seize new opportunities, and forge a new development era for bilateral relations, so as to better achieve mutual benefit and win-win results and pass down bilateral friendship from generation to generation.

Justin Trudeau expressed that the new Canadian government will inherit the friendly tradition towards China. Canada is willing to make joint efforts with China to deepen bilateral relations and all-round practical cooperation, consolidate the profound friendship that has taken root in both countries, and create a new prospect for the positive, stable and robust development of bilateral relations so as to promote peace and prosperity in both countries and the world at large.
