|Wang Yi Meets with Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi of Indonesia|
On September 19, 2017 local time, Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi of Indonesia on the sidelines of his attendance at the UN General Assembly, exchanging views on bilateral relations and the current situation in Rakhine State of Myanmar.
Wang Yi said that the recent violent incidents in Rakhine State of Myanmar are unacceptable. The efforts of the Myanmar government to maintain social stability should be understood. Since the issue of the Rohingya people is deep-seated, complex and sensitive, thus it is imperative to ease tensions as soon as possible, protect innocent people from hurting, prevent further spread of humanitarian crises, and to encourage and support Myanmar and Bangladesh to seek a fundamental solution through dialogue and consultation. China is willing to work with the international community to continue playing a constructive role to this end.
Retno Marsudi expressed that as the largest Muslim country, Indonesia is deeply concerned about the current situation in Rakhine State, and is willing to play an active role in preventing the deterioration of the situation and seeking solutions for Myanmar and Bangladesh. Indonesia appreciates China's stance and propositions and hopes to maintain communication and coordination with China.
