|Wang Yi Meets with Foreign Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano of the Philippines|
On September 20, 2017 local time, Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Foreign Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano of the Philippines when attending the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
Wang Yi expressed that China-Philippines relations have maintained the momentum of improvement and development under the guidance of two heads of state, which completely conforms to the interests of the two countries and their peoples, and is generally acclaimed by the international community including the countries in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). Both sides should positively implement the consensus reached by the two heads of state, keep close contacts, eliminate various barriers, promote bilateral cooperation for continuous practical results and bring sense of gain to the people of the two countries, so as to make China-Philippines friendly cooperation become the mainstream of bilateral relations. China is willing to, together with the Philippines, continuously discuss effective ways of joint maritime development in a positive manner. China will give full support to the Philippines to well hold the rotating presidency of the ASEAN, well host a series of important agendas within this year, in a bid to push forward the ASEAN integration and deepen regional cooperation.
Alan Peter Cayetano expressed satisfaction of the Philippines with the improvement of relations between the two sides and the constant progress of bilateral cooperation. The Philippines thanks for the great help offered by China to its development, especially the assistance provided for counter-terrorism conducted by the government of the Philippines in Marawi. The Philippines stands ready to, together with China, deepen cooperation in various fields and explore and propel joint maritime development, and send out positive signals of the improvement of bilateral relations and the stabilized situation in the South China Sea to the outside world. The Philippines welcomes Chinese leaders to attend the Series of Leaders' Meetings on East Asia Cooperation to be held in the Philippines.
