Li Keqiang Meets with Speaker of the House of Representatives Pantaleon Alvarez of the Philippines

On the morning of November 15, 2017 local time, Premier Li Keqiang met at the hotel where he stayed in Manila with Speaker of the House of Representatives Pantaleon Alvarez of the Philippines.

Li Keqiang expressed that the long history of friendly exchanges enjoyed by China and the Philippines was created by the two peoples together, which has laid the foundation for the rapid turnaround in bilateral relations despite their ups and downs, and met the people's will of deepening cooperation and people-to-people and cultural affinity in future between both sides. It is believed that the two sides have the ability and wisdom to consolidate the friendship, seek common grounds and manage differences, so as to open up brighter prospects for China-Philippines long-term good neighbourly and friendly relations.

Li Keqiang pointed out that the Chinese and the Philippine economies are highly complementary, and bilateral cooperation enjoys great potential. The Philippines is focusing on vigorously pushing for infrastructure construction to improve people's livelihood. China is willing to give play to its advantages in production capacity and equipment manufacturing, and enhance cooperation in production capacity with the Philippines, and discuss carrying out financial cooperation as support, in a bid to better realize mutual benefit and win-win results. It is hoped that the Philippine House of Representatives could inherit the China-Philippines friendship and strengthen parliamentary exchanges with China, so as to actively build bridges for in-depth development of bilateral friendship and cooperation.

Pantaleon Alvarez expressed that Premier Li Keqiang is the first Chinese Premier who paid an official visit to the Philippines in 10 years, which bears great significance to the development of bilateral relations and will further strengthen the confidence from all walks of life of the two countries in the prospect of bilateral friendship. The Philippines is willing to enhance cooperation with China in such fields as connectivity, finance, and innovation. Pantaleon Alvarez thanks China for its support for the Philippines' hosting of the series of Leaders' Meetings on East Asia Cooperation. He is pleased to see continuously enhanced cooperation between China and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, and stands ready to play a positive role in this regard.
