Wang Yi Holds Talks with Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Nasser Bourita of Morocco
2017-11-17

On November 17, 2017, Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks with Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Nasser Bourita of Morocco in Beijing.

Briefing on the important achievements and significance of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC), Wang Yi noted that the 19th CPC National Congress has not only drawn a grand blueprint for China's development in the future, but also injected fresh impetus to the development of China's relations with other countries including Morocco. China stands ready to boost common development between China and Morocco as well as between China and African and Arabic countries so as to push forward the building a community of shared future for mankind.

Wang Yi expressed that recent years have witnessed the rapid development of China-Morocco relations. King Mohammed VI paid a successful visit to China last year, and both sides established China-Morocco strategic partnership. Your visit to China this time and the signing of a memorandum of understanding on joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative demonstrate that Morocco attaches great importance to China-Morocco relations. Both sides should further well implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state, and take the 60th anniversary of the establishment of bilateral diplomatic relations in 2018 as an opportunity, in a bid to elevate bilateral strategic partnership to new highs. China thanks Morocco's firm support in issues concerning China's core interests and major concerns and will, as always, support Morocco's efforts in maintaining national unity and stability as well as seeking balanced development. China is willing to, together with Morocco, constantly expand practical cooperation in trade, investment and project contracting, deepen exchanges and cooperation in military security, culture, education and tourism, and strengthen cooperation and coordination on major international and regional issues, so as to jointly safeguard the common interests of developing countries.

Nasser Bourita, on behalf of Morocco, extended congratulations on the complete success of the 19th CPC National Congress and expressed that the 19th CPC National Congress will not only lead China to a prosperous and strong country, but will also greatly improve China's international status and influence. He expected that China will make new and great contributions to global peace and development. Morocco-China relations are built on the traditional friendship and common interests. King Mohammed VI's successful visit to China last May advanced bilateral exchanges and cooperation in various fields. Regarding China as a reliable and trustworthy partner, Morocco supports China's efforts in safeguarding its sovereignty, territorial integrity and legitimate maritime interests. It is hoped that Morocco and China will continue strengthening mutual support and coordination in politics, anti-terrorism security and major international and regional issues while further expanding mutually beneficial cooperation in various fields including trade, investment, and railway construction. Morocco welcomes Chinese enterprises to expand African and Arabic markets by making use of Morocco's unique geographical advantages.

Both sides exchanged views on international and regional issues of common concern.

After the talk, the two Foreign Ministers jointly signed the Memorandum of Understanding on Jointly Promoting the Construction of the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road Between the Government of the People's Republic of China and the Government of the Kingdom of Morocco. Morocco is the first Maghreb country to sign such memorandum.
