|Wang Yi Meets with Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Prak Sokhon of Cambodia|
On December 15, 2017, Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Secretary of State and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Prak Sokhon of Cambodia when attending the Third Lancang-Mekong Cooperation (LMC) Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Dali, Yunnan.
Wang Yi expressed that China and Cambodia are good brothers and friends. The two sides trust and support each other, enjoying the profound traditional friendship while constantly exploring new cooperation fields. The leaders of both countries have established firm mutual trust, with the friendly tradition between the two sides continuously releasing new vitality. China sincerely wishes Cambodia stability for the society, development for the economy, and well-being for the people. China offers resolute support to Cambodia in choosing its own development path. Despite the changing international situation, China will always strive to bring peace, stability and prosperity to Cambodia.
Prak Sokhon stated that he fully agreed with Wang Yi’s comments on Cambodia-China relations. The two countries boast a special relationship which was established by leaders of older generation of the two sides. And this year, the frequent high-level mutual visits between the two countries have vigorously boosted the mutual trust and practical cooperation of the two sides.
Wang Yi noted that with joint efforts of all sides, the LMC has entered the stage of full implementation, showing the LMC speed, cultivating the LMC culture and forging the LMC cooperation mode. As the co-chairs, both China and Cambodia have played leading roles in pushing forward the LMC. China is willing to keep close communication and coordination with Cambodia, work jointly with all sides to push the LMC for new progress, and move the LMC from nurturing period into the growing period smoothly, so as to advance the construction of economic development belt along Lancang-Mekong River basin.
Prak Sokhon said that the LMC has made huge strides. The six countries share high complementarities, and cooperation outcomes exceed the other sub-regional cooperation mechanisms in the basin. Cambodia approves that the LMC will not replace other sub-regional cooperation mechanisms, but work with them as supplements to each other. Cambodia also supports the construction of the Lancang-Mekong economic development belt, which accords not only with the “Belt and Road” initiative of China, but also with the “Master Plan on ASEAN Connectivity”.
