Xi Jinping Meets with President Emomali Rahmon of Tajikistan
2018-06-09

On June 9, 2018, President Xi Jinping met with President Emomali Rahmon of Tajikistan in Qingdao.

Xi Jinping pointed out that enjoying good-neighborliness and friendliness, China and Tajikistan have treated each other sincerely for a long time, and conducted fruitful mutually beneficial cooperation. As both countries are at the critical stage of realizing national development and rejuvenation, China and Tajikistan should continue to help and support each other, jointly tackle challenges, realize common development, and constantly deepen bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership, so as to make the cause of China-Tajikistan friendship benefit the two peoples more widely.

Xi Jinping stressed that the joint construction of the “Belt and Road” has become the mainline of China-Tajikistan cooperation. In the next phase, the two sides should promote the balanced development of trade, deepen cooperation in finance and investment, expand cooperation in connectivity, and intensify people-to-people and cultural exchanges. Both sides should continuously deepen the fight against the "three forces" and transnational organized crime in the field of security. China supports Tajikistan in taking over the presidency of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) this year and is willing to assist Tajikistan in well preparing for the CICA Summit.

Emomali Rahmon expressed that Tajikistan cherishes its traditional friendship with China, and speaks highly of China’s long-term assistance to the country’s economic and social development. Tajikistan resolutely adheres to the one-China policy and unswervingly fights against the “three forces”. The country is committed to promoting bilateral comprehensive cooperation and intensifying coordination and cooperation in regional affairs. Tajikistan is willing to align the country's development strategy for the period up to 2030 with the “Belt and Road” initiative, and expand bilateral cooperation in infrastructure, agriculture, science and technology and other fields. Tajikistan agrees that the more complicated and changeable the current international situation is, the more necessary it is for the SCO to carry forward the “Shanghai Spirit”.

Ding Xuexiang, Yang Jiechi, Wang Yi, He Lifeng and others attended the meeting.
