|Wang Yi: China's Diplomacy Adheres to Principles and Does Not Engage in Deals|
On the afternoon of August 2, 2018, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi held a briefing for Chinese and foreign media after attending the China-Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Singapore. A journalist asked questions about whether the economic and trade frictions between China and the United States (US) will affect China-US cooperation in the Korean Peninsula issue.
Wang Yi expressed that China, as a responsible country, adheres to principles and does not engage in deals in handling foreign affairs. China will decide its position based on the rights and wrongs of each affair and each issue. And China upholds international justice and the basic norms of international relations. The Chinese side has always believed that the correct way to solve the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue is to realize complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula on the one hand, and establish the peace mechanism of the Korean Peninsula on the other hand, both of which are indispensable. The denuclearization process and the establishment of the peace mechanism of the Korean Peninsula facilitate each other and conform to the common interests of the international community including the US and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. The Chinese side will continue to adhere to this basic principle and basic direction.
