Foreign Ministry Spokesman Liu Jianchao's Remarks on the UK's Issuing the Six-Monthly Report on Hong Kong
2006-07-27 00:00

Q: The British Foreign and Commonwealth Office submitted the " Six-Monthly Report on Hong Kong" to the British Parliament on July 25th including contents on the development of Hong Kong political system. What's your comment on that?

A: Since the return of HK to China, political system and democracy have been advancing steadily and HK citizens have been enjoying unprecedented democratic rights. The Central Government of China supports HK Special Administration Region (HKSAR) to develop democratic system step by step according to HK's situation under the guidelines of the Basic Law. I'd like to emphasize again that HK affairs are China's internal affairs and foreign governments shouldn't make irresponsible comments on HK affairs.
