On August 10, under the subornation of the Taiwan authorities, a handful of countries including Burkina Faso and Gambia sent a letter to the UN Secretary-General, requesting the inclusion of the so-called "representation of Taiwan in the UN" and "the maintenance of peace across the Taiwan Straits" into the supplementary agenda of the 61th UN General Assembly. The two proposals are in essence to create "Taiwan Independence" internationally, which China is firmly against.

Since 1993, the General Committee of the UN General Assembly has refused to include the Taiwan-related questions into the agenda of General Assembly for consecutive 13 years. It fully demonstrates that the United Nations and the vast majority of the UN members hold that there is but one China in the world and Taiwan, as a part of China, is not qualified to be a member of the UN for which statehood is a requirement. Facts have proven that any action, no matter how misleading, that runs counter to the purposes and principles of the UN Charter and attempts to distort and deny Resolution 2758 of the General Assembly in whatever form will never succeed in covering up its real aim to split the country, nor can they get the support of the vast majority of the UN members.

The Chinese government has always exerted the maximum of sincerity in promoting the development of cross-straits relations, maintaining peace and stability across the Taiwan Straits and devoting to achieve peaceful reunification. But the Taiwan authorities stubbornly stick to the position of "Taiwan Independence" and intensify its splitting activities, constituting the biggest obstacle for the development of cross-straits relations and threat to peace and stability of the Straits and East Asia. The Taiwan authorities should completely give up its proposition of "Taiwan Independence", stop all the splitting activities and return to the One-China principle.
