Foreign Ministry Spokesman Qin Gang's Comments on China's Relevant Oil and Gas Exploration in the East China Sea
2006-08-30 00:00

Q: The Japanese media reported that Japan has made representation with China against China's exploration of the "Ba Jiaoting" oil and gas field in the East China Sea, "expressing serious concern and worries over China's exploration operation within Japan's 200 nautical miles exclusive economic zone". What's your comment?

A: Relevant exploration of China is normal activity conducted in China's continental shelf of the East China Sea, hence beyond criticism. China and Japan have disputes over the delimitation of the East China Sea, which should be resolved through negotiations. China opposes to Japan's attempt to provoke any new conflict and incidents.
