Q: On 27th, Israeli Prime Minister Olmert noted on the 33rd anniversary of the death of Ben-Gurion that Israel will resume peace talks with Palestine in order to settle the Middle East issue peacefully. What's China's comment on this? What actions does China plan to take to promote the Middle East peace process?

A:China welcomes the position taken by Israeli Prime Minister Olmert and applauds the active measures adopted by Israel and Palestine recently to ease the tension in the Middle East. China hopes the two sides adopt practical measures to build mutual trust and resume the peaceful talks at an early date.

As a member of the UN Security Council,China has been devoting to proper settlement of the Middle East issue. China's Assistant Foreign Minister Zhai Jun will soon visit the related countries in the region including Israel and Palestine and conduct in-depth exchanges of views with parties concerned in order to bring relevant parties back to the track of negotiation at an early date.
