Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Jiang Yu's Remarks on the Situation in Kenya
2008-01-18 00:00

Q: Dispute over the result of the general election led to social unrest and humanitarian crisis in Kenya last December. Do you have any comment?

A: As a friendly neighbour to Kenya, China follows closely over the developments there after its election and expresses deep concern over the humanitarian crisis. The Chinese Government has provided 300,000 US dollars emergency assistance to the Kenya Red Cross Committee. Red Cross Society of China also has contributed to the relief efforts of its Kenyan counterpart. It is our sincere hope that relevant parties in Kenya should proceed from the fundamental interest of the country and people, and endeavour to solve their differences properly through dialogue and consultation so as to safeguard national peace, stability and development.
