Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Qin Gang's Remarks on British Prime Minister Brown's Meeting with Dalai
2008-05-26 00:00

A few days ago, in disregard of China's serious concern, the UK side allowed Dalai's entrance to the UK, and arranged his meeting with Prime Minister Brown and other major political figures. British House of Commons Foreign Affairs Committee even held a so-called "Hearing on China's Human Rights" and invited him for "testimony". This not only interferes in China's internal affairs, but severely hurts Chinese people's feelings. China expresses its strong dissatisfaction and resolute opposition.

Tibet is an inalienable part of the Chinese territory. The Tibetan issue is purely part of China's internal affairs. We oppose attempt of any country, organization or individual to interfere in China's internal affairs by making use of Dalai. The UK government has reiterated its non-support of "Tibet Independence" on many occasions. We urge the UK side to translate its commitment into concrete actions, contribute to the long-term development of the bilateral relations and safeguard the overall interest of China-UK relations.
